My name is Sawyer Deroche. I am a native Mainer, and have been exploring and experiencing it’s beauty for as long as I can remember.

When I was a kid, my dad guided canoe trips on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. I was in a canoe learning to paddle around the same time I was learning to walk!

My fly-fishing journey began when I was 13, casting off of a little dock in Lily Bay on Moosehead Lake. After watching A River Runs Through It, and consequently reading the book by Norman Maclean, it’s safe to say I was enthralled. My dad had always brought me fishing, but this newfound technique was different. It was magic.

After college, as I got older—and busier—I found myself desiring the sound of a river more and more. Naturally, this led to many hours figuring out the local spots, going after trout, salmon, stripers, shad, smallmouth, pike…
